PTV VALUES OF MOSAIC

With mosaic tiles, the term PTV is sometimes used, as with the London collection. PTV stands for "Pendulum Test Value," the British standard for measuring slip values. It is a reliable method of indicating a tile's non-slip properties.

The Pendulum Test

The Pendulum Test involves moving a pendulum (pendulum) back and forth across the surface of the mosaic tile. The measuring device is placed on a level surface, with a baseline measurement taken first. Then the tile is placed under the device, after which the pendulum passes over the tile five times in three different directions. This process is repeated for the tile when wet. Finally, the average of all these measurements is calculated, after which the mosaic tile is given a PTV value.

The PTV Values

It is important to consider PTV values when choosing floor tiles, especially in areas where water can easily get on the surface and the risk of slipping is greater. Below are the typical PTV values and their meanings. 0 - 17: (Very) low slip resistance - Not recommended for floors. Especially not in environments where slip hazards are possible, think bathrooms or kitchens.
18 - 24: Average slip resistance - Suitable for dry areas where there is less risk of slipping.
25 - 35: Good slip resistance - Suitable for wet areas. Tiles with these values offer better grip making them suitable for use in areas such as bathrooms and kitchens.
36+: Excellent slip resistance - Suitable for wet and oily areas. Tiles with these values offer the highest level of grip. Ideal for applications in wet and oily environments, such as restaurant kitchens or swimming pools.
