HOW TO FINISH MOSAIC TILES IN CORNERS

How do you finish mosaic tiles at a corner of a surface? For interior corners, it usually gives the best results if the tile continues seamlessly around the corner.

With exterior corners, however, this is a bit trickier. There are usually two ways to finish exterior corners neatly:

Mitre cutting of the tiles

In this process, the tiles are cut at an angle so that they merge seamlessly without interruption. This method is possible with all mosaic types except pebble and pebble mosaics. However, it requires precision, craftsmanship and quality tools.

Using a tile profile

A tile profile is available in various sizes (depending on the thickness of the tile), colors, materials and shapes. Part of the profile is fixed in the adhesive under the mosaic, which requires sufficient space. Then the mosaic is placed against the profile. This is a simpler method than mitre cutting and is especially suitable for situations where extra protection is needed, such as in high-traffic public areas or in vulnerable areas such as the edge of a bar.

Tip: When working with surfaces that contain a corner, start by placing the mosaic in the corner itself. This makes for a nicer end result compared to working from the center of the surface toward the corner. For a straight wall with no corners, it is best to work from the center of the wall; this ensures that the cut profiles are the same on both sides.
